Kokrajhar Marathon

Mabarak Hussain of Guwahati scripted first position in the first ever Kokrajhar Marathon 2015 organised on Monday to mark celebration of annual college week festival of Kokrajhar Science College.

The race was flag off by Ranbir Sarma, deputy commandant of 6th AP Bn and started from college campus via JD Road to Bodoland University and concluded at same point via Don Bosco,Bhatarmari Road. Mabarak Hussain of Guwahati was adjusted first,Achinta Basumatary of Kokrajhar and Dhananjay Nath of Barpeta were adjusted second and third respectively. Dr RN Sinha,principal of Science College handed over prizes.The first was awarded cash Rs.10,000 and a certificate,second and third were given away Rs.6,000 and Rs.4,000 along with certificate respectively. A total of 130 racers across the state participated and shared spirits of marathon competition in the event.

Nazira Press Club observed the National Press Day at its office on Monday. Senior journalist and writer Durllav Buragohain, Bulu Chetia and ADC Dhiren Hazarika were present in the function. 

CBI gets 5-day remand of Putul Gogoi

A special court has remanded Putul Gogoi to five days CBI custody a day after the notorious crude oil thief was arrested in Guwahati. Gogoi, who was also called a kingpin in the nefarious fake note racket, was produced before the CBI special court on Thursday where he was remanded to 5 days judicial custody. Details are awaited.

Assam budget session from March 1

The Assam Assembly is all se to hold its budget session from March 1. Governor JB Patnaik would address the session on its opening day.


Speaker Pranab Gogoi would announce the Report of the Business Advisory committee settling the Business for the Budget Session of the Assembly, 2012. On March 2 the second day of the session would begin with Question hour to be followed by Debates on the Governor’s Address.


Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who holds the finance portfolio would table the state budget on March 12. The House would debate the budget from March 13. A set of crucial bills would be tabled in this session which would be adjourned sine-die on March 30.
