PM coming to cast vote

Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. Dr Singh, who is on his last visit to the state as a prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Airport at 12 noon by a special plane.

Then Dr Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will straightly leave for Dispur by a helicopter where he would cast his vote at the Dispur Govt HS School at around 12-30.

During his brief visit to the capital city, Dr Singh will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita.

A team of special protection group has already arrived in the school premises to ensure safety and security of the prime minister whom Assam adopted in 1991.

Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar’s daughter in law is believed to have died of cardiac arrest.According to information, Lija Ghatowar, the wife of Pranjal Ghatowar was rushed to the Sanjeevani Hospital in Dibrugarh after she was found unconscious inside her room in the evening. Suspected NDFB-S militants unleashed a reign of terror in Chirang district when they kidnapped a businessman from Runikhata on Tuesday.Sources told Assam Times that identified as Anup Das, the 40 year old businessman was kidnapped at gunpoint from his residence in the afternoon.Search operation is in progress to trace out him. In a bizarre move, BPF candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll Biswajeet Daimary has lodged a complaint against independent candidate Haidor Hussain alleging an attempt to prevent a section of opposition legislators from voting in his favour in the upcoming polls.Daimary called on returning officer Gauranga Prasad Das on Tuesday in Dispur where he filed the complaint demanded cancellation of the opposition consensus candidate’s nomination.The BPF leader on Monday publicly alleged that a Hussian told a section of AGP, BJP and AIUDF MLAs not to vote Daimary.
