In grip of Rongali Bihu

The wait is over. Rongali bihu is back. The much –vaunted festival begins across the state on Monday with goru bihu.

Cattles were bathed and worshiped in the rural riversides or open fields full of water in the morning which marks the beginning of the seven day long festival.

Rongali Bihu wishes are pouring in from Sunday. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Nabam Tuki have greeted the people on the occasion.    

People of all walks of life are welcoming the news years day of the Assamese calendar on Tuesday.

Bihu functions are lined up across the state to mark the occasion. Guwahati alone have over 500 bihu functions to be held during the next couple of days.
