Here comes the Rongali Bihu

Tender leaves are fluttering in the trees. Season flowers that bloom brightly are spreading the fragrance of spring.    . The rivers and the rivulets seem to have regained their strength with the advent of the season. Chirping birds have turned the entire state into a nest of singing birds. That’s the advent of spring which gathers momentum these days.

If spring comes, can the Rongali Bihu be far behind? Certainly not.

Every household is throbbing with the preparation for the much vaunted festival.  Sweets and pastries are ready to be served. Markets are teeming with people for bihu shopping. Some others are busy with weaving bihuwans for their near and dear ones. That’s the undying tradition of the Assamese girls which enjoys a unique degree of veneration. 

With drums and cymbals, flute and pepa, the youths are all out to make this festival a grand success. This is what the festive mood that grips the people of all walks of life these days.

The festival was originated in the rural areas. But with the passage of time, this pomp and gaiety has reached the urban lot.

Guwahati alone is preparing to host at least 200 cultural function to mark the occasion. The cultural functions focusing the huchories would take place from the day one---the day of Goru bihu where the cows would be worshipped.
