Polling ended in Silchar Lok Sabha constituency on a brisk note on Saturday. Now the fatse of altogether 17 candidates are sealed in the ballot boxes.
The turn out is a huge 70 per cent in Silchar. Voters----both male and female were waiting in long queues in front of the polling stations from 7 in the morning. Long queues were seen till 4.30 in the evening---just before the end.
Polling in this Barak Valley constituency took place at 1233 stations. These include 209 hyper sensitive while 611 others comparatively safe.
BJP MP and former Union minister Kabindra Purkayastha is facing a keen contest with her nearest rival Congress candidate Sushmita Dev, who is also the Silchar MLA.
AIUDF has fielded Kutubuddin Ahmed Mazumdar who is no less popular in some minority dominated areas.
Counting will take place along with the rest of the country on May 16.
