Tarun Gogoi on Thursday scripted history as the state’s longest serving Assam chief minister.
The 79 year old political leader from Titabor in Jorhat district on Thursday has broke the record of his predecessor Bimala Prasad Chaliha who enjoyed the hot seat for 4,696 days at a stretch.
Gogoi became the Assam chief minister since 2001 when AGP faced humiliating defeat in the Assembly polls. In 2006 again, Gogoi retained the hot seat with the help of BPF.
In 2011 assembly poll, Congress fared very well and got 79 seats out of 126. He was again sworn in as Chief Minister for the third consecutive term.
