Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Rahul's rally in Assam is equally important. He has been strength of congress party and he has given its party a breakthrough. His efforts were transformed into actions.

One can see that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is rising day by day. He is very much popular among the young generation and also among the people at the grassroot level. He is putting good efforts in reaching out to people.

Twin blast rock Chirang

NDFB’ anti-talk faction trigger two grenade blasts in Chirang district a day before the Independence Day on Wednesday. The militants triggered two grenade blasts and two improvised explosive devices were recovered. No injury or casualty was reported. The grenade blasts took place in Chirang district around 8.40 am. Security arrangements had been reviewed and additional forces have been deployed at vital installations like oil fields, refineries, airports and along the railway tracks and stations.

State mourning day on Friday

State Mourning Day falls on Friday. It will mourn the tragic death of the innocent souls killed in bomb blast on August 15, 2004 at Dhemaji like the previous years after celebrating the 67th Independence Day state-wide along with the entire country. The day will be observed in all districts and sub divisional headquarters and arrangements for the same will be made by Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers. The National Flag will be flown at half mast in all Government offices.

Upper House for Assam

The UPA government will introduce a Bill to create an Upper House in Assam Legislative Assembly during the Winter Session of Parliament.The Assam government said the Union Minister for Law and Justice Kapil Sibal has told Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi about the decision to establish a Legislative Council (Upper House) in Assam Legislative Assembly.Assam Assembly has passed two resolutions for creation of an Upper House in 2005 and 2010.

AASU , Raha Unit burns land deal bill

The Raha Unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today burnt the copies of the 129th Constitutional Amendment Bill at Raha Chariali to oppose the India-Bangladesh land-swap deal. According to AASU ,the bill, prepared to materialise the deal, was be introduced in the Rajya Sabha today. Once the bill becomes an act, India will transfer its 111 civilian enclaves on the Bangladesh side of the border to Bangladesh. In return, India will get 51 Bangladeshi civilian enclaves that are inside the Indian border. Defy I-day diktat

An Assam-based journalists organization appealed to people not to follow the I-day boycott diktat on Thursday.In a statement, the Journalists' Forum Assam sad that it wants everybody to celebrate the Independence Day to pay tribute to the martyrs of the freedom struggle.The organization has asked people of the region to hoist the national flag at their houses and at other significant locations.Media people are urged to join the celebrations of India's 67th Independence Day at the Guwahati Press Club Aug 15.

More CCTV cameras in Guwahati

Beware. Over 100 CCTV camera are in place in Guwahati. These would be installed in the  sensitive locations very soon.The locations would be monitored round-the-clock. The CCTV cameras would be in addition to the existing 200 cameras already in 90 locations.

No objection for Bodoland: CM

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he has nothing to object if the Centre grants Bodoland. Talking to reporters in Delhi on Monday Gogoi said, “I am open to it. If the Government of India decides, I have no objection." But personally, Gogoi has maintained that he wants the ethnic minorities of the state to stay together, even though he is open to discussions regarding separate statehood.

SC blow for MLA

Trouble seems to have deepen for parliamentary secretary Jivantara Ghatowara when supreme court takes serious cognizance of her false particulars in her poll affidavits.Taking up a petition moved by an AGP leader, a division bench of the apex court comprising Justice RM Lodha and Justice MB Lukur ordered the authorities to register case against Moran MLA. Rajkonwar, who was her close contest alleged false particulars in her affidavits before the election commission. 

Pande visits Diphu

An All India Congress Committee general secretary Avinash Pandey is on a visit to Diphu and Kokrajhar to study the statehood demands of various ethnic communities. AICC leader Avinash Pandey held a meeting with the state Congress leaders in Diphu a day before his visit to Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts where the demand for separate Kamtapur and Bodoland states is getting strident.State party leaders apprised him of the statehood demands of Karbi, Dimasa, Koch Rajbongshi and Bodo communities.He will submit his findings to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on his return to Delhi.
