A gory incident that left 7 people in Goalpara district bordering Meghalaya has forced the authority to clamp night curfew on Monday. Army and police are on patrolling duty at Gendamari area where suspected GNLA militants shot dead seven persons at a dewali function on Sunday night.The night curfew is in force from 7 in the evening to 6 in the morning. National Highway 62 between Damra in Assam and Dalu in Meghalaya as well as NH 51 between Paikan and Dalu along with Khargang-Resubelpara road are not under the purview of the curfew.
Two more youths were found dead at Jorabat in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday. The semi-naked bodies were recovered from a culvert in the morning. Both the bodies bore some injury marks in the heads. Police investigation are going on.
Amid dewali pomp and gaiety, a youth was beaten to death in Guwahati on Sunday night. Identified as Pankaj Pathak, the youth was attacked by unidentified miscreants, probably followed by a road mishap at night. Pathak's body was found beside a temple in the morning. Tension prevails in Chirang a day after unidentified miscreants kidnapped 4 persons of a family at gunpoint. The incident took place at North Khaitema village on Saturday wee hours when gunmen took away Tarun Basumatary, his wife and two sons at gunpoint. Two other childrens, however managed to escape from the scene. Search operation is in progress. But there seems to be hardly any breakthrough.
The Assam government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the recent incident in Azara where two women from Kokrajhar were found dead. The duo were believed to have died under mysteriour circumstances and the bodies were recovered beside the railway track at Jogipara in the outskirt of Guwahati. Additional district magistrate Biyaya Chaudhury would would probe the incident who is set to conduct a public hearing on November 8.

Intellectuals, journalists and a section of senior citizens staged dharna in front of the NEDFi Bhawan on Thusday boycotting a NHPC-sponsored seminar on the proposed big dams in Gerukamukh. The brief silence is over. BTAD areas seem to have erupted in violence forcing the authority to clamp curfew on Thursday. Violence took its worse turn during the 24 hour lower Assam bandh on Wednesday demanding exclusion of Non Boro areas from BTAD. A string of group clashes marred the bandh call leaving two dead and several others injured. The clashes broke out in Baska when a group of people forced some shops to open. These have forced the administration to step up security in the entire Baska district.
