A high level Central team is reviewing Assam’s law and order situation. According to information, led by Union cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar the 24 member team is reviewing the performance of the three tier unified command structure which has been failing to achieve desired results in tackling the terrorists. The team discussed the state’s security scenario Assam Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajai Singh on Thursday. Earlier, the 24-member high level central team, led by KM Chandrasekhar and comprising Union Defence Secretary Vijay Singh arrived in Guwahati by a special Indian Air Force flight at around 5.50 in the evening on Thursday. The team was received by the Assam chief secretary PK Sharma and DGP RN Mathur at the airport. The team drove straightly to Hotel Brahmaputra Ashoka where they met the heads of various Assam government departments. The union home secretary Madhukar Gupta was also scheduled to join the delegation but later he cancelled the trip. The team is expected to review the situation in the hills districts in view of the recent spate of violence.
