BJP’s poll committee on Saturday has cleared five candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for Aprol 7, 12 and 24.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, party spokesman Anant Kumar said that state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal will contest from Lakhimpur. Former Union minister Bijoya Chakravartty will be the party’s candidate from Guwahati.
The party’s election committee which met in New Delhi on Saturday cleared name of Ramen Deka from Mongoldoi and Kamakhya Prasad Tasha from Jorhat.
Rajen Gonain will seek re election from Nagaon.
Reliable sources told Assam Times that the party finds it difficult to finalise nine other candidates out of over 100 aspirants.
The state unit heavyweights met on Friday in Guwahati. But the meeting failed to prepare any panel of candidates and left it on the party high command.
