Will Angkita Dutta defect Congress ?

Defection from a party to another party by elected representatives has already become synonymous with the Indian politics, especially after 2014. Several Congress and other parties' heavyweights across the country defected their parties to the BJP after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister of the country for the first time around 7 years ago. Despite the Parliament enacting the anti-defection laws in the 90s, the defection by elected representatives continue to occur in the country. Defection by a number of Congress heavyweights already rocked the party. One more Grand old party leader in Assam may defect the party, as a section of political pundits viewed. A few days ago, Amguri Congress candidate of the on-going Assam assembly elections, Angkita Dutta openly expressed dissatisfaction over the state party leadership. She took to the facebook and criticized the party leadership and praised Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, which has been viewed by a section of political analysts as her first step to defect the party.  Some Congress leaders, who defected the party in the recent years, on the eve of their defections, did similar things that resembled what Ms. Dutta has done now.

Ms. Dutta is the daughter of former Congress minister late Anjan Gogoi, also contested in the 2016 assembly election but was defeated by AGP's Pradip Hazarika. Interestingly, State BJP president Ranjit Dass, in a television interview of late,  categorically predicted that this time Ms. Dutta would triumph, which also has drawn interest of many.
