Gift to a father

Age is just a number for those who are young with their minds and thoughts. Giridhar Mahanta, Father of  Bollywood actor Urmila Mahanta is one of those personalities. 

He turns 75th today. But at this age  his energy and passion can beat any young. During the Covid lockdown Giridhar Mahanta , a retired Government Senior Officer as well as renown social worker has been kept himself busy with his pen  to express his feelings through poetic words. 

Mahanta wrote poems and took inspiration from his surroundings that gets  expressed in the form of poem. He has been associated with Axom Sahitya Sabha for many years. 

His daughter  Urmila Mahanta released a video today on his birthday and gifted her father with an unique way. She sort-listed 5 of his poems and get them recited by her fellow artist from industry namely Boloram Das, Arif Ali, Mahendra Das, Dhiraj Kumar and she herself and present with appealing  visuals . This is her first tryst  with editing and she did real good job : while sharing her feelings she says “ this is the first time I edited something , am so glad that my friends and family like it , it gives me confidence to try it further in coming days ‘ 

Actor Urmila Mahanta further ads “ it was the secret plan that my entire family was involved for last 2 months , we all siblings are blessed to have such liberal father and we wanted to gift him something special on his 75th Bday , hope he will like it and enjoy it “ 

The presented  5 poems are as follows: Poem “Bibartan” is Recited by Urmila herself, whereas “Moi Bor luite koisu” recited  by Mahendra Das. Contemporary Poem “Corona” recored  by popular VO artist Arif Ali and “Bhabana Expressor Jatri “ is recited  by Dhiraj Kumar. In addition to that Urmila’s friend cum Bollywood actor Boloram Das recited the last one namely “Sei Bidhanshi Jui Kura”

On this special occasion Urmila Mahanta says , " I wish you a very happy birthday deuta . I wish you a healthy and longer life. We have a special surprise plan for your birthday where your written poems are released in video form ,which are done by me for the first time . I hope you will like it and also the public at large . You have been a role model for us and at last I wish you again a very happy birthday from our whole family."

KMSS not to join AAP

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti will retain its non political entity. It will fight for the cause of the poor people.This was what KMSS president Akhil Gogoi told reporters in New Delhi on Friday. Gogoi cleared his position a day after he had attended a crucial meeting in the capital convened by Medha Patkar.Gogoi claimed that the Aam Admi Party has yet to fulfill it poll promises and that they won’t support the new political party. 

Paresh Baruah warned

A massive gathering in Sivasagar district pledged to go all out against Paresh Baruah two days after the banned insurgent outfit gave capital punishment for Partha Gogoi. New DGP takes charge

Senior IPS officer Khagen Sarma on Friday took over as new director general of police replacing JN Chaudhury who is set to join as NSG director on Saturday.Chaudhury, the former IB additional IB director handed over the charge to Sarma at a brief function at the Assam police headquarters in the afternoon in presence of top ranked police officials.Chief minister Tarun Gogoi a few days back confirmed Sarma’s promotion as new DGP after the state security advisory council shortlisted his name along with three other senior IPS officers.

Junbeel mela draws huge response

People thronged in thousands in Jagiroad to visit the Joonbeel mela which is concluding on Saturday.The day two of the grand fair focused the historic bartering system participated by the people from the hills and plains. Those from the hills exchanged ginger, chillies, potatoes, turmeric to be exchanged with the dry fish, vegetables with their counterparts in the plains.The historic Gova king held the meeting of his council of ministers to keep the tradition alive. The fair will be concluding on Saturday. A host of foreign tourists also visited the fair to be excited.        

Silpi Divas celebrated

Assam celebrated Silpi Divas across the state to commemorate the death anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla on Friday. Cultural functions, Jyoti Sangeet competitions and seminars were organized in many places to mark the occasion. The central function at took place in Tezpur, the birthplace of the first Assamese film maker. 

KMSS meets Medha Patkar

KMSS leaders are all set to hold a crucial meeting with social activist Medha Patkar in New Delhi on Thursday.The meeting assumes significance a day before Patkar’s preparedness to join the Aam Admi Party at a function on Friday.The three member KMSS delegation led by its president Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday arrived in the capital to attend the meeting in the afternoon.  KMSS sources, however, told assamtimes that Patkar is likely to urge Gogoi and his  organization to join AAP and lead the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Sources said that Akhil Gogoi is averse to join politics for the time being.

NHRC notice to Assam, Nagaland

The National Human Rights Commission has sought reports from Assam and Nagaland DGPs on the recent recovery of nine bodies in Dimapur. The rights panel has asked for the reports within four weeks.On the other hand, Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is set to recommend a high level probe either by CBI or NIA into the entire incident.

Computer distribution on Jan 25

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi will formally distribute computers for HSLC successful students on January 25 instead of Thursday.Talking to reporters, Gogoi said that the event has been rescheduled due to unavoidable reasons.   

Lukayukta Bill soon

The Assam Government will soon move a bill in the upcoming assembly session to appoint Lukayukta in the state.Disclosing this, chief minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Dispur on Wednesday that the bill to this effect would be raised in the short assembly session to clear the decks for appointing the Lukayukta in the line of the Central government.
