Assamese people feel unsafe in Mizoram

AIAZWL: Thousands of people from Assam feel it quite unsafe to stay in Mizoram following Saturday's border skirmish where 3 people from the state sustained in an incident of attack by miscreants at Lilapur.

The district administrations have sounded alert on the people from Assam residing in the various places to keep themselves confined to their homes fearing more incidents of attack.

The authorities in the capital city of Aiazwl has also beefed up security fearing attack on the people from Assam.

"We are not feeling it safe in the city since police force is quite inadequate to contain any orgy of attack on us," said a Mizoram University student.

She said, "the administration has asked us not to come out. And that's all. There is no extra arrangement of security forces here. "

Some other people from Cachar and Karimganj districts of Assam who are basically businessmen are confined to their houses fearing attack by the miscreants.

Rahmat Ali who hails from Karimganj said, "for the last two years we have been receiving threats from the miscreants and we do not have confidence in the capability of the state police force. I am a small pan trader and my family is facing threats at regular intervals."

A group of miscreants on Saturday night unleashed no less terror as they burnt as many as 12 business establishments at Lilampur along the Assam-Mizoram border where more than five people from Assam sustained injury.
