Curves Shades 2010 - painting and photography exhibition ends successfully

The most talked about event among the young artists from Delhi, “Curves & Shades” was held on May 29 - June 3 at State Art Gallery, Guwahati. It has attracted due attention from artists and patrons likewise.


“Curves & Shades”, an annual event which was formed in 2004 to limelight and endorse the creative aptitude in the field of painting and photography from the North East, where youth from diverse field can come together to represent artworks depicting people, life, culture and nature. These art forms manifest themselves through the works of artists and photographers from each state of Northeast. The “Curves & Shades” will tour all the 8 northeastern states exploring and providing a new platform to budding and new talents from various parts of the region.” says Ranjan Engti, Chief Coordinator.


The 7th episode of the event featured three artists and three photographers. Along with Ranjan Engti, Augustine Rongpi, Internationally known Karbi Artist from Diphu who has been successfully exhibiting his works in France for last 5 years, showcased paintings in the event. Displaying her colorful works inspired by nature and positive attitude is Jinny Barman, an artist, writer, poet and Associate Editor of an upcoming newspaper from Karbi Anglong “The Tribal Reporter”; Shutterbugs like Dhritiman Deori, a talented music composer from Guwahati (with his already hit music album “Mon Akax” in the stands) and Pankaj J Dutta,a product of Sari Academy of Professional Photography in Mumbai participated in the event. Also capturing life in frames Shisir Basumatary (photographer and digital artist) who is also a senior editor of Penguin Publication in New Delhi was part of the event.

The name of the upcoming newspaper from Karbi Anglong "The Tribal Reporter" doesn't sound proper. It is so regressive in tone. Why can't it be called "The Native Reporter"? Please think over it.

Nice to learn about the programme. How can a photographer participate in your program? Recently I was awarded 1st Prize in Photography competition organised by Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Govt of India. I am interested to know about the programme.
