Assamese Community in UAE celebrates Rongali Bihu

The Assamese Community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrated Rongali Bihu on April 10, with traditional fervor and gaiety. Over 200 people gathered at the Metropolitan Palace Hotel Dubai for a cultural evening featuring popular guest artistes from Assam as well as local pool of talents from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. The guest artistes were Gayatri Mahanta, Pabitra Margherita and Krishnamani Chutia.

The event was comprised of Bihu dance competition, hussori, chorus, modern Assamese songs, Jhumoor Dance, Drawing competition, etc. The souvenir of the Assam Society (UAE) - Probaxi Bihuwan - was unveiled by Dr. (Mrs .) Sumati Changkakati the same evening.

The dinner organized at the hotel premises had Assamese flavor too – with helpings of Rou Fish Fry and Muri Ghanta, courtesy Anupal Phookan – a Dubai based Assamese entrepreneur.

This is the 11th year that the Assam Society, Dubai, has organized this event, having started off way back in 1999 with a two-day outdoor programme at the Bin Majid Beach Resort in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. Sir,Madam I am a new social entrepreneur from very backward places of world North East of India (ASSAM). I have a handloom, Handicraft mainly( can & bamboo) products making SSI unit in Assam ,India .Sir, Madam for your kind information huge omen are involp in both of the above mention sectors but 95 percent involp in weaving sector of NE & it is a huge cluster approx. 5 million omen involp in this sector directly & approx.2 million involp in indirectly. But both this sector is unorganized because lake of communication, education & government proper guidance.
