Waiting for green bench in NE

Need of the hour is a green bench in the north east to ensure a safe environment in the entire region. This was what Debojit Das said when the veteran legal practitioner was participating in a round table conference in Guwahati on Thursday.

According to Das, the policies for extracting natural resources are not people friendly. He said that only a section of businessmen has been taking the advantage. Meghalaya, he said, is an example where coal minings have been operating without any hindrance.

“Unless we have a green bench like West Bengal we do not see any hope in near future where we will have to bear the brunt,” he said.
