A medical camp was organised for residents of Santak and adjoining flood-affected villages in Nazira on Wednesday, providing much-needed healthcare to people displaced and affected by the recent Dikhow River floods.

The initiative was led by senior Nazira-based journalist and President of the Greater Sivasagar Press Club, Shiva Gogoi, along with Syed Khairul Hassan, President of the Freelance Journalists Association, Nazira. Medical services were provided by Dr. Syed Maruf.

The camps were held at Santak Bormishing Gaon, Bogdai Gaon and Garmur, where nearly 100 people received medical treatment. Essential medicines were also distributed among the patients.

Health workers said flood-hit areas continue to witness a rise in ailments, including skin infections, waterborne diseases and gastric illnesses.

Residents alleged that government medical assistance has yet to adequately reach several flood-affected areas, leaving many communities with limited access to healthcare.

The organisers said the camp was intended to provide immediate medical support to affected families while highlighting the urgent need for expanded healthcare services in remote flood-hit villages.

Local residents expressed gratitude to the organisers and the medical team for extending assistance at a time when healthcare facilities remain difficult to access in many inundated areas.
