Kokrajhar launches Census 2027 awareness campaign in educational institutions

The Kokrajhar district administration on Wednesday launched its Census 2027 (Phase-I) Awareness Programme for educational institutions, beginning the campaign from St. Ann's College in Kokrajhar.

The programme marks the start of a series of awareness initiatives aimed at sensitising students and educational institutions about the significance of the upcoming Census exercise and encouraging wider public participation.

The inaugural programme was attended by District Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Pankaj Chakravarty, Additional District Commissioner Banti Talukdar, Assistant Commissioners, the Principal of St. Ann's College, faculty members, officials and students. The event began with the felicitation of the dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty expressed satisfaction that the awareness campaign had commenced from St. Ann's College. He said he was confident that with the support and active participation of educational institutions and students, the campaign would achieve its objectives and contribute meaningfully to the successful conduct of Census 2027.

Explaining the importance of the Census, Chakravarty said the exercise involves comprehensive enumeration of the population and provides the data required for evidence-based planning at the village, district, state and national levels. He said accurate Census data helps governments identify strengths, gaps and future requirements, enabling policymakers to make informed decisions on investments and developmental priorities.

Encouraging the students, the District Commissioner said that while academic achievement is important, becoming a good human being is equally significant. He urged them to realise their full potential, adding that in today's interconnected world, opportunities are no longer limited by geography and that sincerity, dedication and good character can help individuals achieve success.

He also extended his best wishes to the students for their future endeavours.

Resource persons Binod Chandra Swargiary, Associate Professor at Commerce College, Kokrajhar, and Pralip Kumar Narzary, Professor at Bodoland University, highlighted the objectives and importance of Census 2027 (Phase-I). They also encouraged students to actively participate in spreading awareness about the nationwide exercise.
