Hindi-speaking workers hurt in firing
Two persons have been injured when unidentified gunmen attacked a group of workers at a stone crushing site in Dibrugarh district bordering Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
According to the eyewitnesses, the incident took place in Namrup along the Sivasagar-Dibrugarh districts at 7-50 in the evening when the workers were preparing to leave for homes.
Suddenly, two motor cycle born gunmen halted and fired upon the workers where Sanjay Bharatiya and Gopal Shah fell injured. Then the gunmen vanished from the spot.
The injured were rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Policemen have cordoned off the area in search of the militants. No outfit has so far claimed the responsibility. It is suspected to be a handiwork of ULFA-I.
But NSCN-K's role cannot be ruled out as the area bordering Arunachal Pradesh has been a safe haven for the ULFA-I, NSCN-K militants.
The incident took place hours after Kahgen Sarma handed over charge to Mukesh Sahay as director general of police.
