Four-day Kathak, contemporary dance workshop concludes in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, July 11, 2026 — A four-day summer workshop on Kathak and Contemporary Dance, organised by the Kokrajhar Nritya Kala Academy, concluded on Saturday with a closing ceremony at the academy's premises in Thanapara, Kokrajhar.

The workshop, which began on July 8, brought together around 100 young girls from different parts of Kokrajhar district for intensive training in the fundamentals of Kathak and contemporary dance.

Reality show judge, choreographer and actor Shankar Kalita attended the valedictory function as the chief guest. Commending the academy for organising the workshop during the summer vacation, he said such initiatives provide an important platform for identifying and nurturing the hidden talents of the younger generation.

Kalita also appreciated Academy Director Prolaya Dutta for organising the four-day training programme and expressed hope that it would encourage more young people to pursue dance as an art form.

Addressing the participants, Kalita said dance, music and acting are lifelong disciplines that require continuous learning and dedication. He added that the workshop's emphasis on the fundamentals of dance had left a lasting impression on him.

During the programme, Prolaya Dutta felicitated Alok Chowdhury, the chief trainer and Kathak guru from West Bengal, in recognition of his contribution to the workshop.

Certificates were distributed to all participants at the conclusion of the programme.
