The conclusion function of National Rural Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Awareness week organised by Kamrup District Water and Sanitation Committee was held on February 26 at Rangia in association with Rangia Public Health Engineering Sub division. An awareness rally was organised on the occasion which was participated by students of four school of Rangia area. Awareness meeting organised on the occasion was addressed by Kandarpa Deka, Assistnat Executive Engineer, Golap Deka, Section Officer, Jolly Changmai Kalita, District Coordinator, Gopeswar Haloi, Section Officer, Benudhar Kalita, Section Officer, Abinash Talukdar, Section Officer Pankaj Deka, Block Resource Centre Coordinator and other officials of Public Health Engineering Department. Hand washing Demonstration was performed by Bikash Das, Block Resource Centre Coordinator, Public Health Engineering Department. Some competitions were also organised among school childrens on the ocaission. An awareness street play was performed by local artists.

Kamalpur Police today apprehended one ULFA cadre namely Khargeswar Kalita (22) from Panitema village under Kamrup district. Police launched an operation acting on specific information and nabbed the 709 battalion cadre. According to Police, Khargeswar Kalita is a trained militant and was involved in extortion in north Kamrup. Police seized some documents related to ULFA from his possession. Two persons were killed in an accident took place at Hajo under Kamrup district today at 1-30pm. Ghanashyam Murari Shrivastava has taken over the charge as the Director General,Assam Police from today. He is an IPS of Assam and Meghalaya cadre and of 1972 batch.
