Victory for Congress, BPF

The suspense is over. Its victory for Bhubneswar Kalita, Dr Sanjay Sinh and Biswajeet Daimary in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.

Congress candidates Bhuneswar Kalita and Dr Singh got 32 votes each while the alliance BPF candidate got 29 votes. Haidor Hussain had to remain satisfied with 26 votes.

In a major setback for the Opposition camp, six votes stood cancelled. This has become a staggering blow for the prospect of the Opposition consensus candidate.

Barring Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan, all legislators have exercised their franchise for the three seats in the Upper House.
