Assam celebrated Silpi Divas across the state to commemorate the death anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla on Friday. Cultural functions, Jyoti Sangeet competitions and seminars were organized in many places to mark the occasion. The central function at took place in Tezpur, the birthplace of the first Assamese film maker.

Landslide again wreaks havoc in Assam where two persons lost their lives in the outskirt of Guwahati on Thursday. The incident took place early in the morning in 11th Mile area near Sonapur in the wee hours sending shockwaves in the entire area. The shocking incident struck when a guard wall collapsed on the house where Bishal Sharma and his daughter Nanu succumbed to their injuries. His wife Radha Sharma and another daughter Puja sustained injury in the incident.

A record rainfall in Guwahati wrecked no less havoc in the premier north eastern city heavily disrupting Eid celebration by the Muslim people on Thursday. There seems to be no let-up in the overall flood scene in Assam on Wednesday with incessant rains in many parts of the state along with the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been flowing abode the danger level suggesting a grim scene during the next couple of days. Rajen Gohain has been given railway ministry hours after the Nagaon MP took oath as minister of state on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated the portfolio to the senior BJP leader fetching a ray of hope for the north eastern region. Many parties and organizations in the North East have welcomed Gohain saying that he would try his best to enhance railway connectivity in the entire region. Gohain is the second MP from Nagaon district of Assam to have taken oath as Union minister.
