Guwahati city has become a safe smuggling route these days. Noonmati police have arrested 5 person on Sunday after recovering a golden gecko lizard from their possession. According to the police, they were caught red handed as two of them from Barpeta were secretely selling the rare species of lizard to three persons who came from West Bengal. Police further seized a pistol and army dress from their possession along with a round of life bullet. The seizure took place hardly 24 hours after the Basistha police seized a golden gecko lizard from two person on Saturday.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, to six police stations across five districts in Manipur. This decision, effective immediately, will remain in place until March 31, 2025.
The affected areas include Sekmai, Lamsang, Lamlai, Jiribam, Leimakhong, and Moirang police stations in Imphal West, Imphal East, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, and Bishnupur districts. The extension is aimed at empowering security forces to conduct coordinated operations and address the ongoing ethnic violence and insurgent activity in the region.
