NABARD plans Rs 2224.63 crore investment in 2008-09 in Assam

NABARD has planned to invest a total Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-2009 in Assam. Addressing a seminar held on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, the banks’s chief general manager C K Gopalakrishna said of this amount, the potential assessed for agriculture is Rs 886.38 crore , Rs 441.05 crore for industries while Rs 897.19 crore is being kept for services. He said in view of the thrust on agriculture and food processing industries, a credit potential of Rs 35.23 crore has been estimated for the year. Noted economist Dr Jayanta Madhab inaugurated the seminar which was attended by several senior bank officials.

We have an NGO named BHATIRKUPA YOUTH ORGANISATION, Hailakandi, of 12 years old but without any govt scheme and very much desirous to work under NABARD, for the interest of poor people of Hailakandi. Can I expect any cooperation from NABARD ? We are ready to abide by all terms & conditions of NABARD.

Dude! This kind of investment has been happening since India got independence and if you see the progress rate it is very very slow; those people who are in Delhi, whom we call the government is only interested to use our natural resources and exploit them; this is not only in Assam but North East as a whole; i'm hoping and praying when the day will come that people will unite and fight against this menace.......

I am apprehensive about the utlilization of funds under NABARD and all sort of investment related schemes and in Assam. Introduction of Micro-Credit in the villages is a better option. Corruption will trickle there too, but the loopholes will be far less.

Its time to 'work with the people' not 'work for the people'. The basic funda of any goverment agency is to work for the people and hence no progress inspite of huge amount spent in the name of development. We can become the watchdog for the programme and ask governments about it's progress. We can ask them to put the things online so that they dont have to give execuse of papaers and any other stationery items. Together we can bring a change.

Assam is set to set yet another record. Come January 6. Altogether 15,000 artistes are going to perform kholat Mejenga Pathar in Titabor with an aim to create a Guinness world record. The venture would help the state spread the culture that was introduced by Vaishnavite siant Srimanta Sankardeva. Despite watertight security, a low intensity blast exploded near Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s official residence in Koinadhara leaving a teenager boy injured on Saturday.He sustained injury when a detonator he carried home exploded near Gogoi's official residence at Koinadhora. Identified as Sanjib Das, the boy found the detonator attached to a wire at a stone quarry on the Assam-Meghalaya border and was carrying it home at Uday Nagar and it exploded in the high security area.According to police, the teenager suffered minor injuries in the explosion which was a small one and caused no damage. He said that Das was administered first aid at a hospital and released.
Normal life came to a grinding halt in four districts following the 24-hour bandh call by the All Tiwa Students Union which ended on Saturday evening. Tension prevails in Tinsukia a day after the owner of a tea estate and his wife were charred to death by a mob of angry workers. The incident took place at the Borduma Tea Estate when the estate owner Mridul Kumar Bhattacharjee and his wife Rita Bhattacharjee were burnt alive in the evening. A local trader sustained serious injury at a shoot out in Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.The incident took place at night when unidentified gunmen fired upon the trader at his residence before disappearing in dense darkness. Identified as Bikash Sarkar, the injured businessman was rushed to the hospital. Police officials rushed to the spot but no one has so far been arrested.
