Dispur is prepared to operationalise 181 helpline exclusively for women in distress.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi writes to Chief Secretary PP Verma asking him to instruct the state Home and Political Department to work out an action plan to operationalise the 181 helpline facility for women as it was in other states like Delhi.

Gogoi directed that the helpline be operationalised in consultation with the Assam Police, Health and Family Welfare, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and other line departments. Congress alliance will win atleast one seat more than BJP, claims Gaurav

Senior Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi today claimed that the Grand Old party-led alliance will win atleast one seat more than the ruling NDA in the upcoming Assam assembly elections. Interacting with media, the Kaliabor MP said that the people are now fed up with the policies of the BJP. “ People are becoming disenchanted with the BJP. Congress loses two leaders in Assam

In a major setback for the Congress, which has been struggling hard to regain strength since 2014, has today lost two of its prominent faces in Assam. Sitting MLA of Badarpur, Jamaluddin Ahmed and former MLA of Dergaon Aroti Kachari Hazarika passed away. The Dergaon politican was 59. The two leaders' deaths were mourned by many including APCC president Ripun Bora, former minister Bismita Gogoi, among others.

Guwahati : In a first, AASU leadership has reined in Samujjal Bhattacharya saying that the yet to be inducted adviser is not competent to make any statement on behalf of the state's influential student body.
