Ban on strikes in Assam

Assam government has prohibited strikes in the state by Officers, Workmen, Contract Labour, Tanker, Driver and also Khalasis involved in the service in the Oil or Gas Sector for a further period of 6 (six) months from the date of issue of the notification until further orders.

It may be noted that as per provisions of item (xii) of clause (b) of sub-section (i) of section 2 of Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980, strikers involved with any service in any Oil field or Refinery of any establishment or undertaking dealing with the production, supply or distribution of Petroleum and Petroleum products including natural gas will fall under the purview of the ban.

Assam government has decided to introduce with immediate effect self-attestation of original documents in lieu of attestation by gazetted officers/magistrates etc. in all cases except where there is statutory requirement. The need for a tea auction centre at a prime tea producing area like Jorhat was raised at a seminar in the ongoing Assam International Trade and Industrial Fair on Monday.The issue was raised by Manoj Jallan, former Chairman of NETA at a technical session on tea at one of the fair’s seminar hall.
