Journalist meet to 'Focus on Assam' on June 14 at London
The High Commission of India partnering Tea Board of India is organising a flagship event on Assam - "The Gateway of India's North - East" on June 14 at Mayfair, London. The summit will address key issues related to the overall socio-economic development of the North East.
The topic for the panel discussion is "The role of India's North - East in Global development" - will witness the coming together of a number of top UK & India journalists. The highlights of this panel discussion featuring diverse themes with eminent speakers, emphasising infrastructure, investment, economy and ethnicity connected with the state which would open up international connectivity leading to an unprecedented boon to the state.
The panelists will be led by Humphrey Hawksley, BBC Foreign correspondent, author and commentator on world affairs, Amit Roy (President of the Indian Journalists' Association), Telegraph India & Eastern Eye, Vijay Mehta, Chair of Uniting for Peace and Founding Trustee of Fortune Forum Charity. The meeting will be chaired by Rita Payne, President , Commonwealth Journalists Association (UK branch).
The interactive session will be graced by Simon Hughes, The Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Sukhdev Singh Sidhu, Minister Coordination, UK India High Commission.

Last Tuesday evening I had a shocking phone call from a friend telling me Jitendra Nath Barooah passed away in his sleep at his Southfield residence. He had a heart attack, lying fully clothed in his bed. Unknown to anyone when actually he died. It was only came to light when a neighbour raised the alarm as he was not been seen around for few days. Soft spoken loving, kind and gentle person, he was everybody’s moromor, Basa da – a great loss for the Assamese Community in London. He died at the age of 85.
