Honouring outstanding reporting on the environment
Assam Times seeks submissions from mid-career/ mid-level journalists in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura on environmental reporting for the First Northeast Green Journalism Award, 2013.The award will be given to professionals associated with print, online, radio, television and photojournalism.
Journalists must submit:
Five samples of their original work for print and online; three samples for radio and television; four sets of complete photographic narratives for photojournalism; or four samples of a combination of all. Submitted samples should preferably be dated between January 2011 to March 2013.
Any other material to prove commitment for environmental journalism and consistency in environmental reporting.

Please note:
The reports can be in any of the languages in the region. Vernacular reports should be translated to English for convenience of the judges.
Each print article should not be longer than 1,500 words.
Any audio or video report must be of 15 minutes duration. Longer reports should be reduced to 15 minutes for submission. English voice-overs or sub-titles should be added in case of non-English reports.
Photo stories should have at least 8 photographs (max. 15) with accompanying text and captions.

The First Northeast Green Journalism Award, 2013 award will be presented on 5 June 2013.
This award is an initiative of Assam Times, a new media collective, to recognise and honour commitment and consistency in environmental reporting in the region.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. According to some reports, among others, former minister and MP Prodyut Bordoloi, former minister and MLA Rockeybool Hussain, and former minister Bismita Gogoi would quit the party at any time. New Delhi : In yet another significant development in the field of politics, Assam's former Congress president and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora quits the party and joined TMC on Sunday.

Guwahat: AAP has alleged a nefarious attempt by BJP in Guwahati to upset it's prospect for the upcoming GMC polls.
Talking to Assam Times, a senior leader of the party said that BJP/s youth wing has damaged a hoarding in Guwahati on Monday.

New Delhi: The Centre has withdrawn AFSPA 1958 from 24 districts in view of an improved law and order situation.
According to the notification, it would come into force from April 1,2022.
Apart from the hills districts, AFSPA will be in force in Sivasagar, Jorhat, Tinsukia.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Centre for the decision and hoped that the Act would be a thing of the past for the entire state in the near future.
New Delhi: Assam and Meghalaya claimed to have settled an interstate border dispute in 6 places at a meeting of Chief Ministers with the Union's home minister in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The agreement was formally signed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma after a meeting that evening.
Speaking to reporters waiting outside, the Chief Ministers claimed to have settled a decade-long issue in 6 areas and hoped for the same solution in 6 other remaining areas.
But both sides refused to divulge the details of the agreement, which is likely to trigger protests and anger among people living along the disputed border areas....
