Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Lifeless Pramod returns

Rahul promises more funds

More fund is required to expedite the process of development. This was what Rahul Gandhi said after his interaction with 17 development boards on Tuesday.The Congress vice president said that if Congress is voted to power this time, he would take personal initiative to increase the fund amount to all the development boards.Chief minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita, AICC leaders Dr CP Joshi, Avinash Pandey and Ajoy Maken were present in the interaction at the Sarusajai Indoor Stadium.

Thumbs up Gogoi

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that Assam has progressed on all fronts during the last 13 years.Addressing a huge rally in Khanapara on Monday, Gandhi gave the credit to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. “I think Gogoi is a perennial source of inspiration for the party,” he said in his address.He criticized AGP government saying that the regional party government has done precious little for the people. Unlike other politicians, Gandhi said that the leaders do not change a country and that it’s the people that change the face of a country.

Rahul ridicules BJP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday came down heavily on BJP accusing the party of disrespecting the sentiments of the people.In his address at a rally in Guwahati, Gandhi said that Congress is known for its respect for the people while BJP has been downplaying the sentiments of the people. He said that BJP does not want peace to be restored in any parts of the country. According to Gandhi, Only Congress can ensure peace through development.         

Rahul stresses empowerment

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has stressed women and youth empowerment to ensure sustainable development of the country.Addressing a hug rally in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gandhi talked of politicians of two categories in the country. He said that the first category wants to empower people while the rest takes power from the people. “I belong to the first category,” said Gandhi. He said that the poor people needs to be empowered to translate their dreams into reality.

Gogoi slams Modi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi launched scathing attack on Narendra Modi alleging that the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate was on a mission to divide the people.In his welcome address at the youth and women empowerment rally in Khanapara on Monday, Gogoi said that Modi has no right to criticize him on poverty while his own Gujarat has lakhs of poor people.He further said that Rahul Gandhi has reached out to the tribal people which Modi has yet to do.Over 1.50 lakh people thronged the Veterinary playground to listen Rahul Gandhi.

Confusion over Pranab Boro

The identity of the KMSS activist who died after self immolation attempt in Dispur on Monday mires in mystery and confusion.Till Tuesday, he was identified as Pramode Boro, a resident of Gorchuk and his wife claimed to have two daughters.But the scene has changed dramatically. A family of Bhuragaon in Udalguri district claims that the person in the storm of shock is Tuwaram Sarania who has been missing since 2009.They identified the lifeless KMSS activist on looking at the passport size photograph beamed in the various satellite news channels.

Rahul reviews development

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi stressed expedited process of sustainable development in Karbi Anglong district when he interacted with the autonomous body members in Diphu on Monday.  Gandhi further took stock of the development initiatives by the council in the interaction in presence of chief minister Tarun Gogoi and AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi.Then he left for Guwahati to address a huge rally in Khanapara.Earlier, he arrived in Diphu by a helicopter and met the Congress men in the hills state.
