Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

BJP discusses poll strategies

Guwahati: State BJP leadership have hunkered down in Guwahati on Friday to hammer out a slew of strategies for the upcoming Assembly polls due in April.    Attended by Narendra Singh Tomar, Jitendra Singh, Baijayanta J Panda, CM, Ranjit Das and Himanta Biswa Sarma, the meeting discussed the fate of a few party veterans and they options lying ahead to exploit the advantage. "We have not seen any difference as the most BJP workers are either truncates of the Congress or the AGP in our assembly constituancy," said a teacher when asked her about the poll-prospect of different parties in the upcoming election in their constituency. Mandarin duck spoted near Assam's Dibru Saikhowa

Probably, for the first time in recent history, a mandarin duck has been spoted near the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park in Assam. Eminent poet and novelist Dr. Neelakshi Chaliha Gogoi informed that the migratory bird has been sighted in the Maguri-Motapung beel situated near the park. “I think the bird has come here due to his mistake. Supreme Court rejects Akhil Gogoi's bail plea

In a setback for the Raijor Dal and its supporters, Supreme Court of India has rejected the bail plea of Akhil Gogoi, on Thursday. The KMSS leader and the president of the Raijor Dal moved the SC challenging the reject order passed by the Guwahati High Court. Hearing the plea earlier today, a three-judge bench of the SC comprising of Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Aniruddha Bose denied bail to the activist. Mob lynching revisits Karbi Anglong

In a horrific incident, a 40-year old man was lynched in a village of Karbi-Anglong on Sunday night. As per reports, a mob of some villagers brutally assulted a man to death. The victim was identified as Monsing Rongpi. He was a resident of  the Karashi Bey village under the Bakalia police station. The mob first took him to a football field where they tied him to a goalpost before beating him mercilessly. Due to the assult, Rongpi died at the spot, reports said.
