Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Verma new Chief Secy

PP Varma will be new chief secretary. “Today I am making it public. He will take charge after Das retires on the last day of this month," Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati Varma, a 1978 batch IAS officer, is currently the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare and Public Health Engineering Departments. The incumbent Naba Kumar Das, a 1976 batch IAS officer, will retire on June 30.

Gogoi to contest 2016 polls

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi dropped hint of contesting again in the 2016 assembly elections.Talking to reporters in Dispur on Saturday,  Gogoi sent out a strong signal to the dissidents that he will contest for the top post. He said claimed that he has full support from the party high command.He further called dissidence is a small issue.

Tribute to martyr

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday paid tributes to freedom fighter Swahid Kushal Konwar on the occasion of his 70th death anniversary at Nehru Park in Guwahati. Gogoi paid floral tributes at the statue of the freedom fighter from Assam who had laid down his life for the freedom of the country. Konwar was the only martyr in the country who was hanged during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
