Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday moved Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention in the construction of three dams on the upstream of the Brahmaputra.
In a letter to the Prime Minster, Gogoi pointed out that though the Chinese Government had given assurance that they would take care of the interest of downstream areas, the State Government has apprehensions that it might affect the State.
Gogoi in his letter said that the ‘entire Assam economy East is dependent on the Brahmaputra and that the construction of three new dams on the upstream of the river might affect the interest of the region in the downstream areas.
