In an effort to resurrect the life of person who have bid good bye to insurgency and decided to lead a dignified life, the Haflong based Assam Rifles Sector had initiated a pilot project for rehabilitation of these surrendered cadres and had trained 35 of them under various vocational trades from industrial training institute (ITI) Haflong from 16 Jul 2012 to 20 Oct 2012. These cadres were then provided jobs by various construction companies involved in construction of National highway and Broad Guage Conversion Project of Indian Railways in Dima Hasao district.
As a result of success of the pilot project, it was decided to have the phase - II of the rehabilitation programme. The phase - II of the project will also include the unemployed youth of Dima Hasao district. Phase - II under the name of “Vocational Training Programme for Youth of Dima Hasao,” Commenced on 28 Jan 2013 with a grand opening Ceremony which was inaugurated by Debojeet Thousen, Chief Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council in presence of various dignitaries which included Brig Gajinder Singh, Cdr 22 Sector Assam Rifles, Col R Nair, Addl DIG, Col PS Arora, Commandant 25 Assam Rifles and others.
In the Second Phase of training 25 Youth from different remote villages of Dima Hasao will undergo a 12 weeks training at ITI under the various trades which includes Electrician, Basic Computer, MMV, Wireman and Welder. Efforts will also be made to provide them with job opportunities in various construction companies after the termination of the training, so that the trained Individual is able to financially support his family. Whereas the phase I of the project was funded by DHAC, for the Phase- II 25 Assam Rifles has been sanctioned Rupees two lakhs under Director General Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme.
Under the able guidance of Headquarters 22 Sector Assam Rifles and the Haflong based Assam Rifles pledges to continue with the effort of rehabilitation and resettlement of the youth of Dima Hasao to achieve the ultimate aim of bringing peace and tranquility in the district.
