Book release at JNU

Paban Singh Ghatowar at JNU Special center for Sanskrit Studies at 10 AM on 18th January 2013

A Book titled “Understanding Schopenhauer through the prism of Indian Culture” was formally released by Honorable Minister for DoNER Paban Singh Ghatowar at Jawaharlal Nehru University on January 18. The book was edited by Arati Barua, Matthias Kossler and M. Gerhard. On the occasion of 10 years completion of Indian division of Schopenhauer Society that the book release was organized by IDSS in collaboration with the Special Center for Sanskrit Studies of JNU.

Dr Arati Barua, the director of the Indian Schopenhauer Society expressed her feelings about the whole event as a moment of great fulfillment and a privilege for her to welcome all the participants to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the formation of the Indian Division of Schopenhauer Society (IDSS) in India.

Out of the presentations of that Conference this book has been compiled by 3 Editors- Arati Barua, Matthias Kossler and Michael Gerhard and it is published by De Gruyter Germany which has just come out. It was a great moment that the book was formally released on this auspicious occasion.

Ramen Deka, Member of Parliament was a distinguished guest for this function. Professor Nirmalya Narayan Chakravorty, Member Secretary of  ICPR, Chaired the session. Prof. S. P. Kumar, Chairperson of the Sanskrit center welcome the guests and Dr Ramnath Jha of the same center was the co-organiser of this program  and presented his paper “ Upanishads: Schopenhauer’s solace of life and death” . Dr Ajay Verma from Delhi University and Dr Prashant Shukla from U of Lucknow were the discussants of the paper. There was a lively discussion on the theme of Upanishads and Schopenhauer and many suggestions were given how to move forward in this direction towards a new kind of research on this topic , particularly by the Indian scholars.

Dr Mercy Helen Director ICPR, Ms. Ruchika, PRO German Research Foundation (DFG), New Delhi, Dr. Ajay Kumar Arora, Principal, Deshbandhu College, Dr. Purabi Saikia, Principal, Bhagini Nibedita College, U of Delhi, and many other distinguished guests  were present.

Meghalaya High Court Quashes ST Certificate Rule for GHADC Polls

The Meghalaya High Court has set aside a controversial notification that made possession of a Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate mandatory for candidates contesting the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
