Experts visit College of Fisheries
A team of 5 member delegate from Tuskegee University, USA, today visited College of Fisheries, Raha to explore the fish industry of Assam and look at the possibility of enriching the fish market by introducing advanced fish-processing techniques as part of the Agricultural Innovation Partnership (AIP).
The team comprises of Dr. Olga Bolden Tiller, Assistant Professor, Agriculture Science; Dr. Channapatna S Prakash, Professor, Crop Biotechnology; Dr. Nar K Gurung, Assistant Professor and Associate Director, Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with two researchers Ms. Mandy Shelby and Ms. Sherlita Robinson.
Talking to the Assam Tribune, Dr Gurung said that they are visiting a couple of Indian agricultural universities, national fishery institutions and local fish markets. They arrived in New Delhi and departed to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUA&T), Meerut on December 11th to review the new fishery course introduced and managed in the College of Veterinary Sciences.
The team then headed towards Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Assam, on December 12th and visited the Veterinary College and attend a seminar with faculty and students from AAU to identify innovative approaches in value addition with respect to the fishery products. After visiting the college of fisheries, Raha the team will then visit the local fish market including upland fisheries in Guwahati and Jagiroad dry fish market (one of the biggest dry fish market in Asia).
The last leg of their program will comprise a visit to the National Fishery Development Board, Hyderabad, on Dec 19th and Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University-College of Veterinary, Hyderabad, on December 20th. The major focus of their Hyderabad visit will be to learn the status quo of fisheries in India, the socio-economic and historical issues, the level of fish processing today, identification of innovative and novel approaches toward fish processing, preservation, value-addition and marketing.

The police personel of the Dokmoka outpost on October 12, at around 6.45 am seized approximately 70 kg of ganja from a Diphu to Guwahati bound Karbi Anglong Autonomus Council (KAAC) bus. Police also arrested three persons, identified as Wilto Miju (17), Robert Mizu (32),both hails from Rengkai district of Manipur and Kishore Kumar Singh (40) of Imphal, in this connection. On Tuesday,16 August at around 8.30 am, the Christ Jyoti School of Nagaon was shaken by a phone call that was received by the Father of the school. At around 5-30 pm on Monday, a grenade exploded near the Autonomous State Demand Commitee (ASDC) office in karbi Anlong district where a person was killed and four others injured. According to Police in Nagaon, the dead has been identified as Rishi while the injured are Riazul Haque Borbhuyan, Ghana Das, Karmabir and Samsuddin.
