Secretary of the Green Guard Nature Organization, Rituraj Phukan is all set for the International Antarctic Expedition. Scheduled for the 28th of February 2013, the 14 day expedition will be lead by Robert Swan- the first man to walk to both the North Pole and the South Pole and recipient of the OBE honor from Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and the 2041 team.
In recent years, global warming and climate change due to unplanned human development activities has emerged as a major threat to the two polar areas of the globe. Rising temperatures and change in climatic conditions has adversely effected global biodiversity and threatened the existence of innumerable species of plant & animal life on all the seven continents. 2041 was founded by Robert Swan, who has dedicated his life to the preservation of Antarctica by the promotion of recycling, renewable energy and sustainability to combat the effects of climate change. 2041’s mission is to build on Swan’s dedication by informing, engaging and inspiring the next generation of leaders to take responsibility, to be sustainable, and to know that now is the time for action in policy development, business generation and future technologies.
Currently there is a moratorium in place that bans drilling or mining in Antarctica called the Environmental Protocol, or Madrid Protocol, established signed by almost all the nations on earth in 1991. This document can be reviewed after the 50-year anniversary in 2041. As the year 2041 quickly approaches, Robert’s goal is to ensure that the young people of today make informed and sustainable decisions for tomorrow.
Since 2003, Robert Swan and 2041 has taken along selected people from the corporate, academic & environment fields to Antarctica, to gain firsthand knowledge of the continent’s fragile ecosystem, experience its unique wildlife, the effect of global warming and climate change and how they can be countered by promotion of recycling, renewable energy & sustainability.

It is indeed a proud moment for the people of Assam & Northeast India, particularly those associated with the 'green movement'. I hope Mr. Rituraj Phukan will find the support of the business, political & media houses, to sponsor the expenses and that he will return to share his experiences with the people of Assam & others.

Dibrugarh : Armed miscreants robbed a Reliance Petrol Pump in front of Dibrugarh University on 24th June. Police have arrested four people in connection with the robbery. Tezpur : One person was killed on the spot when he met with an accident with a bus near Haleshwar Mandir, around 10 kilometers from Tezpur. The deceased has been identified as Tridip Hazarika and was around 30 years old.
Tinsukia: The Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, Dr P K Trivedi made a surprise visit to several offices falling within his jurisdiction and the result was that pay cuts were ordered for 84 employees in these offices for not coming to office on time. Altogether 24 companies have come out to revive the ailing sector with a huge Rs 48 crore loan money.These companies will devote the fund, named as the Special Tea Purpose Fund, in the replantation of bushes in 82 tea estates covering 1,925 hectares.The Assam tea Company is among those who are a part of this pact. Guwahati: Altogether 12 people died and 7 others injured when two locomotives and seven loaded wagons of the Bardarpur-bound Dn FCI Bhim goods train fell off bridge No. 108, 52 km from Lumding on Monday morning.According to Northeast Frontier Railway officials, the loco pilot (driver) of the ill-fated train, Deepak Sen, and six trackmen working at the site died on the spot, while six others died on the way to the hospital.Seven others, including MK Rajak, the assistant loco pilot, were injured.
