Bihu at London Olympic opening

Good news for Assam and its people. The state’s evergreen Bihu will be shining in the London Olympic slated for August. Bihu exponent Ranjeet Gogoi and his team have been invited to perform in the opening London Olympic ceremony. Gogoi and his team are scheduled to leave for London very soon. This has brought cheers for millions of people in Assam.

New Assam Governor to be finalised today

Major General (Retd) Nirmal Chandra Vij is all set to be the new Assam Governor. The formal decision will come up on Saturday's Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi. According to reliable sources in the national capital, the home ministry has a list of a few others to be named for the post. Dhemaji flood situation unchanged; alert in Dihiri Holdunga

The flood situation in north Assam’s Dhemaji district is remaining unchanged. It could be deteriorating further in view of the continuing rains that have been lashing the district for the last several hours. The authorities are sounded alert apprehending breach of the embankment at Dihiri and Holdunga of the river Jiadhol which could be a disaster for more than 200 villages. Flood hits Dhemaji as Jiadhal breaches embankment

The first wave of flood waters are surging in Upper Assam's Dhemaji district affecting hundreds of families early on Wednesday morning. The situation started deteriorating as the river Jiadhal has breached a portion of the embankment measuring around 20 meters. This has forced as many as 300 families to leave their houses. More areas are set to come under the surging waters as the incessant rains are continuing. According to information, the NH 52 is closing on Wednesday following rising water level in Kumotia river. The water level is rising following the incessent rains from Arunachal Pradesh over topping the national highway. The road is being repaired by the Border Roads Organisation.
