Ramendra Sutradhar: a tribute

A most popular figure of Udalguri,Ramendra Sutradhar is no more. His tragic end came in the morning of 27th May, Sunday. While he was performing morning walk a speedy bike hit him hard and he was lost. Born on April 13,1951,he did his primary schooling at Udalguri near Angragaon.He passed his matriculation from Barpeta H.S School and B.Sc from Darrang College. He was associated with several Social and cultural organisations including Asom Sahitya Sabha Udalguri Unit, Udalguri Bihu committee, Bishnu Rava Kristi Sangha, Sankardev Shishu Niketon etc. Due to early death of his father Shashi Sutradhar he had to look after their family business. Ramen Sutradhar was very popular in his friend circle and almost in Udalguri due to his amicable behaviour. He leaves behind his wife, One son and two daughters. It was a great shock for all of us. Though he is no more, his good deeds and responsibility shown towards all respect of life and society will be always remembered. Today on the day of his “Adyshradha” we pray God to grant eternal peace to his departed soul.

Five villagers rescued a python near Kalaigaon on December 4. According to information five inhabitants of Gohaichowk village (Outala) near Kalaigaon noticed a python lying in a dry drain in a paddy field at 8 am on December 4. The youths namely- Babul Sarma,Harish Kakati,Ghana Kanta Deka,Ratul Deka and Tilak Deka immediately reported the matter to the DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri. A male Sambar deer (Rusa Unicolar) aged 10 years have been killed by miscreants near Coramore today morning. The deer was found in serious condition when forest personnel rescued it . The deer was brought to Paneri forest office where it succumbed to its injury. According to attending veterinarian Dr.Kailash Chamua the deer bore sharp injured marks near its chest.  
One Dayal Kerkata (28) has been killed and Girish Kerkata (55) has been seriously injured by of wild elephants last night at Bormukali near Nonoi Forest Range Office.According to information the incident occurred when they had been trying to chase away wild elephants to protect their crops.So far 20 people and 11 wild elephants have been killed in Udalguri district during 2013. Human-Elephant-Conflict (HEC) takes serious turn in Udalguri district following deaths of two more wild elephants during last three days. In the first incident,a 30 months old baby wild tusker was found dead near a paddy field in Gitibari village near Paneri tea garden in the morning hours of November 3. The baby tusker bore injury marks on its trunk indicating electrocution. Dr. Sulav Sarma,VAS attending post-mortem told this correspondent that the baby tusker had died due to electrocution and food poisoning. A 12 years old wild elephant (Makhona) has been found dead at a paddy field near Bongshipur (Hatigarh) in Udalguri district at noon on October 5.The elephant is suspected to have been poisoned to death as per preliminary veterinary investigation. So far seven wild elephants have been found dead in Udalguri district alone since January 2013.
The unnatural death of one more wild elephant calf at Bhutiachang tea garden in Udalguri district has caused concern among nature loving people.The two months old male wild elephant breathed its last at section No.20 of Bhutiachang tea garden from falling into a deep tea garden ditch on September 20. According to information the baby elephant fell into the ditch while a herd of wild elephants were crossing the ditches in the night of September 20.
