Governor confers Award to Kanaksen Deka

Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik conferred the Anairam Nunisa Award to the well known Journalist Kanak Sen Deka at a function in Guwahati on Saturday. The Anairam Nunisa award is an annual award, instituted by Gandharba Publications, Guwahati, since the previous year, to outstanding journalists for lifetime contribution to the field of journalism.


Presenting the award, he dwelt at length upon the achievements and contributions of Kanaksen Deka to journalism and termed him as a pathfinder and added that he was a man totally devoted to the sacrosanct field of journalism and ceaselessly strived for perfection without any aggrandizement or seeking any selfish interest or gains. He also outlined the literary genius of the man. Patnaik also elaborated his personal experiences in the field of journalism and stated that he had started his career as a journalist and still contributed literary pieces to his magazine. He declared that he still considered himself to be a journalist.


Kanaksen Deka, in his speech, gave a detailed picture of his experiences as a journalist while declaring that he had never ever had the ambition of becoming a journalist himself. He urged all journalists, particularly the upcoming one’s, to develop a national character and stated that every Assamese should first consider oneself to be an Indian, and as an Assamese thereafter only.


Other distinguished persons who spoke on the occasion included Haidor Hussain, Chief Editor, Asomiya Pratidin; Dr. Siba Nath Barman, eminent writer and journalist; Dilip Chandan, Editor, Asom Bani and Dr. Motilal Nunisa, eldest son of Late Anairam Nunisa and Ex- President Dimasa Sahitya Sabha.

A NDFB-S rebel identified as Buddhiram Basumatary alias Birkw of Amteka Debrabil in Chirang district was apprehanded from Karigaon area in Kokrajhar by security forces belonging to the Army on Sunday morning.
