EM stresses on scientific livestock rearing

To take the stock of the on going Govt. Pig cum Poultry Farm project at Sontila 15 KM from Haflong, the Executive Member, incharge veterinary etc. Sri Parkanta Warisa etc. visited on Friday.

To avoid health hazard being threatening of occurrence of communicable disease from livestock and poultry to human as the farm was located in the thick populated area in the middle of Haflong town, the farm was shifted to Sontilla area.

The area at Sontilla measuring about 35 bighas is very suitable for the farm Firstly- the communication which is very important for transport of output and input of the farm better than other place who also having source of water the highly requirement for the farm. Secondly-the climate at Sontilla is very suitable for piggery & poultry farming and for which the department hope that the farm will be more fruitful in various side.

The department aiming very high to increase the production of the farm which will be benefited for the public as well as the Govt. since there is no such farm in this district till date. Besides Pig & Poultry Farming, hatchery would be available and moreover, Cattle demonstration will be provided in future. Also the department will be providing good quality of livestock & poultry feed through Feed Mixing Plant at a reasonable price. Thus the department hoped that in near future by constructing dam to retain water, Duckery farming will also be possible.

EM, Warisa, expressing satisfaction over the on going work progress disclosed that once this project completed, the people of Dima Hasao in general and people of Sontila will be benefited in regards to their sustained economy, since most of the tribal people are in practice of rearing of livestock traditionally. There fore this scientific and high yielding method of rearing live stock will make them economically self sufficient.
