ASHA Supervisor training completes in Nagaon


ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) a trained female community health activist selected for every village with a population of 1000 is one of the key strategies under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). ASHA selected from the village itself remains accountable to the local community. ASHA’s are required to undergone a total period of 23 days training in five episodes to work as an interface between the community and the public health system. However, it is clarified that ASHA training is a continuous one and that she will be developed the necessary skills & expertise through continuous on the job training. There are 1901 nos of ASHA serving Nagaon district since 2006 selected in phase manner. To facilitate and do handholding activities recently one ASHA Supervisor against 10 no of ASHA’s appointed by heath department under NRHM. As mentor in Nagaon district total 196 nos of ASHA Supervisors are engaged.


Nagaon is among one of the promising district who completed first round seven days residential ASHA Supervisor modules 6 & 7 training in the April month of 2012. The training were conducted in batch wise consisting 30 participants’ of each batch at Youth Hostel and Sheuz Bhawan, Nagaon. “ The whole 6th & 7th module training will be covered in four rounds over 22 days (7+5+5+5) spread over one and half year. Topics like Working in the Community, Delivery, maternal emergencies and referral , Home-based Newborn Health and Care, Women’s reproductive health etc are to be covered under four rounds of training” informed District Nodal officer of ASHA Dr. Jayanta Boroowa. He further said emphasise was on participatory approach, role model and case presentation to make the training more lively and amusing. Resource persons nominated from Assam Mahila Samata Society - MNGO (mother NGO of NRHM) and Nursing School were trained earlier in a zonal level programme held in the month of January 2012 added Maruf Alom district media expert NRHM Nagaon. Detailed instruction and fund are released to all 11 BPHC’s ( Block Primary Health Centre) of Nagaon for executing the ASHA 6th & 7th Module training. It is mentioned that after imparting the training 1901 ASHA will be provided some medical equipments like Baby Weighing machine, scale, digital thermometer etc. As NRHM emerged in to the 2nd phase (first phase concluded on 31st March 2012) hence the trained female community health activist of the district must be plied vital and crucial rule in reducing maternal- child deaths.

At least 30 passengers had a narrow escape when in a country-made boat carrying them capsized in Aie river of Chirang district on Friday. The incident took place at around 2.30 in the afternoon at Ranisundari ghat when the boat was on its way from the west to the eastern bank of the river, which is a major tributary of the Manas river. Properties worth one crore have been reduced to ashes when a market caught fire in Moran on Thursday. The incident took place in the wee hours when the fire broke out at a shop because of electric short circuit. Immediately, the fire was spreading to the nearby shops. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot but by then the fire engulfed the entire daily market. Local residents blamed delay in the arrival of the fire tenders which was why, the fire spanned out of control.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday claimed victory for Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential polls. Talking to reporters after casting his vote at the Central Hall of the Assam Assembly in the morning, Gogoi said that the Mukherjee, a veteran political leader deserves the coveted post. Gogoi said that Mukherjee is expected to get the support of more than 111 legislators in the state. He hoped that other opposition parties would also vote for the former finance minister.

General Officer Commanding-in- Chief of Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Dalbir Singh called on Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik on Wednesday and apprised him of the flood relief and rescue operation in the state. The chairperson of the National Commission for Women Mamata Sharma on Wednesday suggested a slew of measures to ensure safety and security of women in the state. During his hurricane visit to Guwahati on Wednesday, Sarma asked Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to provide government job for the molestation victim apart from proper counseling and rehabilitation. Four persons were killed an ugly string of group clash in Barak Valley on Wednesday. Twenty others have been 20 injured in the clash. According to police, the clash took place over a five year long land dispute. The two groups used sharp weapons during the clash at Matijuri area of Hailakandi district. The deceased were identified as Mizanur Rahman Chaudhary, Nazimuddin Chaudhary, Nazrul Haq Barbhuiyan and Aziruddin Barbhuiyan.
Normal life in Sivasagar district remained paralyzed during the 12-hour bandh called on Wednesday demanding stern action against Army personnel involved in the molestation case in Demow.
