The Diaspora from Assam that call the UAE home is all set to celebrate Rongali Bihu in a grand way on the 6th of April in the glitzy desert city of Dubai. The event is a formal culmination of festivities that take place in various households in the community. No wonder, it is a much awaited event for all those who yearn for the magic of Bihutolis at this time of the year.
It was the year 1999 when the UAE first witnessed Rongali Bihu celebrations in an organised way. With each passing year the celebrations have grown in scale and grandeur thanks to the tireless efforts and active participation from each and every member of the diaspora. Rehearsals for the big day are underway in many households and everyone is eager to put his/her best foot forward as it is a rare opportunity in a foreign land to showcase the cultural mosaic that is Assam.
Over the years acclaimed artistes from the Assamese music and tinsel world have graced the Bihu celebrations in the UAE and this year is no exception. Singing sensation Dikshu (Sharma) and the talented Priyanka Bharali will be the star attractions and fans here are eagerly anticipating a virtuoso performance from the duo.

One person was seriously injured in yet another blast that took place in Sonari in Sivasagar district on Sunday midnight. Two ULFA militants were left killed at a joint encounter of police and army in Silikhapukhuri area of North Lakhimpur district early in the morning today. A powerful blast that rocked Doomdooma town just before a while has left one person dead and several injured. According to information, the blast took place at around 4:20 pm in the afternoon at the Daily Bazaar. The injured people have been rushed to the nearby Doomdooma Civil Hospital. High level police and civil officials have reached the spot and cordoned off the area.
