Tension prevails at Langting


Tension is running high in Langting area of Dima Hasao following the recovery of almost decomposed body of Swapan Paul aged 32 in jungle between Langting and Dihakho, who was kidnapped by some unidentified miscreants on the night of February 28th from Langting area, 110 KM from Haflong at a time when the district is still having several security agencies.


Shocked and irate entire populace of Langting area gheraoed the Langting police station and kept the entire business establishment closed. The police had to resort to two rounds of firing in the air to disperse the mob. The people were demanding the immediate action against the culprits who were involved in this heinous crime.


It is learnt that in the year 2007 Swapan Paul was appointed as LP teacher in a village but he did not get the salary all along thereafter he opened a shop of Xerox, typing etc. only eight months back with loan. On February 28th he was kidnapped and the kidnapper first demanded 1 crore then they came down to 6 Lakh.


In this connection police also arrested one Biju and two others recently. Following the confession of Biju, the body of Swapan Paul was recovered today.


Mentionable in another incident of kinapping, one Suman Dey aged 23 only son of Narayan Dey of Hatikhali, in Dima Hasao was also kidnapped on November 17 last year and till the date Suman remain untraced even after reportedly paying the ransom to the kidnappers.


Since the kidnapping incidents are on rise in Dima Hasao, the people have lost confidence on security agencies as well as administration.
