The voice of protest against the NHPC owned big dam in Gerukamukh gets more strength when more and more experts have criticized the controversial deal.
Hundreds of people thronged the Laxmidhar Bora Kshetra in Guwahati to hold a rally orgsanised to raise new voice of protest against big dams in Gerukamukh along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Himansu Thakkar, Ruhan D Suza along with several other dam experts opposed the big dam apprehending a major disaster in the downstream areas.
The speakers further has appealed to the people of all sections to stand united against the NHPC project.

Draft National Water Policy (2012) proposes the following under Section-9 (Project Planning and Implementation) as-
9.1 Being inter-disciplinary in nature, water resources projects should be planned considering social and environmental aspects also in addition to technoeconomic considerations in consultation with project affected and beneficiary families. The integrated water resources management with emphasis on finding reasonable and generally acceptable solutions for most of the stakeholders should be followed for planning and management of water resources projects.
9.4 Local governing bodies like Panchayats, Municipalities, Corporations, etc., and Water Users Associations shall be involved in planning and implementation of the projects.
9.5 All water resources projects, including hydro power projects, should be planned to the extent feasible as multi-purpose projects with provision of storage to derive maximum benefit from available topology and water resources.

Guwahati: Altogether 12 people died and 7 others injured when two locomotives and seven loaded wagons of the Bardarpur-bound Dn FCI Bhim goods train fell off bridge No. 108, 52 km from Lumding on Monday morning.According to Northeast Frontier Railway officials, the loco pilot (driver) of the ill-fated train, Deepak Sen, and six trackmen working at the site died on the spot, while six others died on the way to the hospital.Seven others, including MK Rajak, the assistant loco pilot, were injured.
