R-Day celebrated in Bhergaon Sub-division
The 63rd Republic Day has been celebrated at various places in Bhergaon Subdivision with gaiety. At Kalaigaon,Dina Moni Das,Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Bakori field, Kalaigaon in presence of thousands of people. The Circle Officer felicitated five distinguished people for their remarkable service to society in various fields. Cultural events were also arranged on the occasion for boys and girls. A friendly volley ball match was played in the afternoon. At Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Kalaigaon campus,Madhab Sarma, Principal, JNV, Kalaigaon hoisted the tricolour.
At Bhergaon :At sub-divisional HQ Bhergaon,Pranjal Das, SDO, Civil, Bhergaon hoisted the tricolour at Bhergaon High School playground in presence of nearly five thousand people before inspecting a guard of honour. Ten contingents of students,police,NCC,ABSU,ARSU etc took part in the march paste event. Speaking on the occasion Das paid tribute to thousands of known and unknown martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Motherland. He specially mentioned a few social evils namely -witch hunting,blind belief and superstitions etc and requested all to join hands against such social evils. He also appealed people to enjoy own rights without disturbing others. Awards were given to a few people for their outstanding performance in various fields. Spectacular cultural and sports events were also arranged to much delight of people mostly woman and children. Bonjar Daimari, Deputy Speaker,BTC; Rati Ram Boro and Jagadish Sarkar both MCLA,BTC and a few other distinguished people attended the ceremony.
At Tangla : At commercial town Tangla,Pabitra Kumar Das,BDO,Kalaigaon Block hoisted the national flag at Tangla HS School Play ground in the presence of thousands of people including twi German tourists. Ten contingents of Tangla schools took part in march paste. Financial assistance was awarded to two poor deserving students on the occasion. BDO Pabitra Das specially requested the students to come forward to create a good academic atmosphere in the district. Santias Kunjur,EM,BTC also attended the ceremony.

In another tragic incident a 40 years old wild makhna elephant has been eletrocuted near SSB camp at Samrang in Udalguri district in the night of October 24. According to information the elephant died on spot after it had come in to contact of loosely erected un authorised electric wires. All such loose electric lines have been causing threat to wild elephants as well as people. So far four wild elephants lost lives in Udalguri district in 2014.

In a very tragic incident wild elephants killed Karlina Shal (55) and her daughter Jyoti Shal (7) last night at Deepa basti village near Kundarbil at around 2.30 am on September 7. On the other hand two of her grandsons were also injured by the wild herd. According to information the family members tried to escape but a wild makhna of the herd had killed mother and daughter on spot after damaging their houses.So far 18 people have been killed by wild elephants while 2 wild elephants also lost lives in the district in 2014 alone.

It was a national news when 7 elephants were mowed down by a high speed goods train on the 23rd of September 2010 in the 'Elephant Corridors' of North Bengal. Three female, three calves and one tusker was killed. A lactating mother was dragged on the tracks for more than three hundred meters before the train finally came to a halt !! This was the foundation of a voice which was determined to shout back at the system to stop and listen. But this was easier said than done. Army deployed in Udalguri district have nabbed one hard-core ULFA militant at Tangla during evening hours on August 19. Acting on a tip-off the Army troops from Borrengajuli camp launched a joint operation with the police in which a listed ULFA cadre was apprehended.The operation took place near the busy market place of Tangla. The arrested cadre has been identified as Khagen Deka (45).One 7.65 mm revolver and two live ammunition have been recovered from the apprehended militant.
