The Kaziranga National Park has been reopened for the visitors on 1st November. The world"s famous park, home to one-horned Rhinos, migratory birds and several endangered species will be kept open for the visitors till April next so that tourists can take a glimpse of them. The 430 square kilometer park located at Nagaon and the Golaght districts of Assam (in North East India) was declared world heritage site in 1985.Since then several foreign agencies have come forward to extend financial help to save the animals who are on the verge of extinction.
It was opened for the tourists by DK Goswami, deputy commissioner of Golaghat at aroud 6-45 am for both Indian & Foreign tourist.Both elephants and jeep safari were started today in the Kohora range.The tourists at Mihimukh, Kohora were today greeted by a seventeen elephants.1st day 15 Foreign tourist visit this park.
The inaugural function was attended among others by Jiten Gogoi, MLA, Bokakhat, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) BS Bonal, Park Director SN Buragohain, and BC Sarmah, Deputy Director Tourism among others.
Taking advantage of the situation altogether 596 Rhinos have been killed by the poachers since 1980. Despite the problem the authorities have not been able to contain the menace due to poor infrastructure. Moreover theguards engaged in the park duty are not at all equipped to match with the gun power of the poachers and as a result of which poaching has been on the rise gradually.

ULFA seems to have stepped up its activities in the run up to the Republic Day. A hardcore ULFA militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam's Tinsukia district. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a group of five ULFA cadres in Hebeda village, police launched an operation in the area.In an ensuing encounter the militant was killed while others managed to escape. Massive protest over rape and molestation is spreading across the state on Saturday. Tinsukia police have arrested five persons for gangraping a 13-year-old girl on Friday. The incident took place at Sukanpukhuri tea estate under Makum police station on the intervening night of January 2-3 after one of the accused, Jogeshwar Mali, lost his cellphone.According to police, Tusu incited her husband and his friends to punish the girl and the four caught hold of the girl at a lonely stretch of the estate and raped her.The police arrested Tusu, Mali and his friends Sanesh Nayak, Tirnath Mali, Ram Chandra Patnaik after the girl told the family about the incident.
A lower court in Lakhimpur has jailed a CRPF jawan on Friday charging him with raping a physically challenged woman on Thursday. Three of his colleagues are on the run. The incident took place at Chauldhowa village. According to eyewitness, about four CRPF personnel forcibly took the physically challenged woman, who was passing by the CRPF camp on NH 52 in the area to the nearby jungle. Some locals raised an alarm. While they managed to catch Mohan Singh, the others fled. The victim has been sent for medical examinations.
