Nagaland Police beat up youth at Golaghat, ATTSA threatened economic blockade
At the time when the entire state emerged in the joy of celebrating Bhogali Bihu a team of around 25 to 30 Naga Armed Police beat up a seventeen years youth at Golaghat which has stirred a great sensation here. According to the information, on 15th January, Sunu Bawri was returning home from Bihu festivities when the Naga Police team assaulted the youth with kicks and punches causing serious injuries. He is now undergoing treatment at Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Golaghat. Reacting to the incident Kumud Boniya, the vice-president of Assam Tea Tribes Student Association (ATTSA) central committee has given an ultimatum of 48 hours to Assam government to bring the culprits to book otherwise they will start an indefinite blockade of all Naga vehicles plying on Golaghat- Merapani road. Meanwhile in another incident, yesterday a group of Nagas armed with indigenous weapons has forcefully entered Kolajan village and started the construction of a road from Kolajan to Foothills of Merapani which has caused some tension in the area. The people of Kolajan alleged that the neutral force (CRPF) has always failed to protect them from Naga atrocities.
