The 27th Mid-Term Conference of Sivasagar District Academic Council on January 18-19
The 27th mid-term conference of Sivasagar district academic council will be held on 18-19 January, 2012, at Ghilaguri High School, Khaloighugura. On first day the flag will be hoisted by Prabin Sarma, Inspector of school and remembrance will be attended by Atul Phukon, executive president of the celebration committee. On that day a discussion, “ The rule of present education system in quality education” will be inaugurated by retired Principal of Ting-Khang College, Mr. Jiweswar Mohon.
On the second day the open meeting will be innugurated by mr. Lakhminath Gogoi, Sub-Divisional Officer, Charaidew and will be attended by retired Professor of Dibrugarh University, Mr. Girin Phukon, Retired Principal of Bhagawati Prasad Barua Higher Secondary School, Sonari, Mr. Bishnu Dutta, the Education Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the speaker of Assam Assembly Mr. Pranab Gogoi. The D.C. of Sivasagar, Mr. Jatindra Nath Lohkor will be attended as a Invited guest. A souvenir will also be released in that meeting.

Social worker, ardent follower of satriya culture and astrologer, Prasanna Mahanta of Sr iSri Na-Mati Katonipar Satra, Nangalamora passes away at Assam medical college, Dibrugarh on January 17 at an age of 53. Due to a sudden stroke, Mahanta became unconscious during a pal-nam of this Satra organised for Bhogali Bihu. He was shifted to Assam Medical college, Dibrugarh.
The sudden demise of Mahanta creates sorrow among his family and friends. He was also an employee of irrigation department. Late Mahanta left behind his married daughter, a son and his wife.
Dead body of 18-year-old youth, Abhijit Kalita of Namti-Misajan recovered under suspicious condition from the rented house of Makhan Borah of B.G. road Sivasagar, near the ONGC colony on January 18. The dead body was found hanging on the varanda of the rented house. Abhijit was a driver in the contractual vehicles plying on ONGC duty.
Dedicated follower of vaishnovite culture and retired teacher Minakanta Dutta of Panibil-Gumutha, near Nazira passed away at an age of 93. Besides his devotion to social work, late Dutta published a book "Sarba-Gunakor" related to vaishnovite thought and principle. Late Dutta was felicitated by the Sahitya Sabha and Teachers day celebration committee for his dedication to the society.
The foundation stone of legendary singer, Dr Bhupen Hazarika is laid at “Joya Samonoy Khetra”, Joya tini-Ali, Bokota in Sivasagar district by Mrs Abonti Pame-gum Chetia, noted Mishing folk artist, All India Radio’s singer and Ex. Teacher of Dhitai pukuri higher secondary school on Silpi Divas. The programme was organised by Bokota-Nongolamora Jibon-jyoti Sangha. In this programme, veteran sportsman, Jugen chetia, noted social worker Nandeswar Borah, the teachers and students of Nongolamora L.P. school, Bokota-Joya M.E. The third establishment day of Moran Sahitya Sabha will be held at Kushal Nagar, Moran on january 29. On this occasion the fine-arts, debate and essay competitions for students are being organised. “Kalugaon Samonoy Sangskritik Samaj” and “Mukul Sahitya Sabha, Shaloguri” are jointly organising a “Shradhanjoli” programme of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Dr. Mamoni Roisom Goswami at Kalugaon Girls High School on January 22-23. There will be competition of fine-arts, bhupendra sangeet and recitation of poetry with two sections in two days event.
On first day, the famous play “Shukunir Pratishudh” of late Ganesh Gogoi, and on the 2nd day, “Angikar” by late Prafulla Bora will be staged.

The proverb, “Third time lucky” is completely proved in a dangerous road accident today near the Simoluguri police station, of Sivasagar district. The bike rider's life is saved fortunately. The accident is occuered at about 2 p.m, on Tuesday - a Honda CR100 motor cycle (AS-04-E-4440) entered near the back wheels of the Sivasagar-Sonari bound 709 mini bus (AS-04-B-3438). the bike is badly damaged. Police have taken this lucky man to hospital but his name is unknown till sending this news.
