The Early Birds, an organization for animal care recently conducted a free veterinary vaccination cum treatment camp around the Pobitora Wild Life sanctuary on 27th and 28th Oct'07. Altogether 487 cattle were covered in the villages of Kholabhuyan, a fringe area. Medicines worth Rs five thousand were also freely distributed. Three veterinary final year students Sri Rupam Bhattacharya, Sri Anil Deka and Joy Prakash Sharma took part while two life members Sri Mukul Talukdar and Sri Pulakesh talukdar coordinated and liaised with the forest department. Early Birds eco-club members from Mayong also assisted the team. The D.F.O (WL) and the R.F.O , Pabitora offered field support . These vaccination camp was the 27th at Pobitora in last 14 years and 109th for all the Wild Life areas of Assam and Meghalaya covered by Early Birds.

The North Eastern Council has begun its two-day plenary session in Agartala on Monday. Inaugurated by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Mani Shankar Aiyar the meeting is being attended by all Chief Ministers and Governors of the region, barring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting is schedule to sign 'Vision-220' document. Assam is set to be represented Minister for Planning and while PWD Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has arrived in Agartala. The session is also set to discuss a plan for tackling poverty in the region and development of roads, railways, tourism, information technology.
One person was killed and two others injured at a powerful bomb explosion at Alipurduar along the Assam-West Bengal border on Monday. It was an IED which was planted at a bicycle that exploded near a MVI Checkgate at Barebisa in Jalpaiguri district. The deceased was Gobin Sarma, a driver of the Bhutan bound vehicle from Assam. The two injured people are Sudam Barman and Suresh Shah. They have been rushed to the Alipurduar Civil Hospital. No militant outfit has so far owned up the responsibility.

Two dreaded ULFA militants died at an encounter with army in Baksa district last night. According to information, the encounter took place last night at Salbai village where two top ranked ULFA cadres left to death. They have been identified as sergeant Baba Rabha and Bhabesh Baishya. There is a flutter at the Gauhati University campus as its Vice Chancellor Dr Amarjyoti Chaudhory has resigned citing his failures to uplift the varsity due to lack of cooperation from the Assam Government. According to information,Dr Chaudhory has tender his resignation on Saturday afternoon. Details are awaited.
